Steph & Nick’S Colourful May GG’s Yard Wedding With Bright Seasonal Wild Flowers
Steph and Nick’s super fun colourful wedding in Dumfries and Galloway was full of bright seasonal blooms and handmade touches to make it personal unique to them. This was our first time working at a GG’s Yard wedding and it did not disappoint. It has lots of space and beautiful light which was perfect for this bright relaxed spring day.
DIY garden themed day with crafty diy elements
Steph and Nick are keen gardeners and crafters and had lots of great diy elements to their wedding which they wanted to be filled with colourful wild flowers and we got to work with some of our favourite photographers Neil Thomas Douglas and videographers Eleven Six too!
Scottish seasonal Flowers with spring foliage
We used almost all Scottish grown seasonal flowers and lots of spring foliage such as larch which has a lovely bright green colour at that time of year. May is a great time for Scottish grown flowers with lots of my spring favourites like tulips and ranunculus hitting their stride.
natural hand tied wild flower bouquet
For Steph’s bouquet we created an unstructured wild flower styled hand tied arrangement that looked like she’d scooped it up on the way to the ceremony. It was filled with seasonal blooms such as peonies, broom, ranunculus, aquilegia, allium and orlaya among many others all mixed in with delicate alder and larch foliage. We finished the bouquet with streaming tassel ribbons of rainbow colours.
Bright flower crown and buttonholes with hexagonal hoop bridesmaid bouquets to match the ceremony arch
We created a gorgeous bright flower crown for the bride to wear and cute bright buttonholes for the groom and his groomsmen. For Steph’s bridesmaids we decorated metal hexagonal hoops with fresh flowers to match the bridal bouquet and echo the hexagonal floral arch under which the couple got married. The bright colours really popped against the bridesmaids’ gorgeous yellow dresses.
colourful jam jars and a hexagonal ceremony arch
The couple had a relaxed and fun-filled ceremony in GG’s yard where we hung jam jars of colourful spring flowers and streamer ribbons from the chairs and decorated an amazing wooden Hexagonal arch built and designed by the groom. These elements could then be easily moved to the main space where the couple had their wedding reception. We also decorated a wooden palette welcome sign with flowers at the entrance to the venue where guests arrived.
laid-back garden themed reception
For the reception Steph and her mum had planted cute mini terracotta plant pots as favours and to continue the garden theme we filled assorted sizes of decorative watering cans with brightly coloured seasonal wild flowers. These were elevated in the centre of each table on wooden wine crates and surrounded by foliage and colourful candles. This beautiful mixture of seasonal and locally grown flowers smelled wonderful and was perfect for the laid back wild flower and garden theme and relaxed feel of the day.
watering cans of wild flowers which could be taken home by guests
Other areas we decorated with flowers were the cake and a guest book table where people could leave cards, gifts and photos for the couple. Here we added some more watering cans of wild flowers, these watering cans had been collected and painted by the bride and could be given away to guests after the wedding.
