Sustainability and Flowers

We are committed to becoming more sustainable and adopting more environmentally friendly practices. We are not perfect but are trying to improve all the time so if there’s some way you feel we could be more sustainable please let us know and we’ll try our best to find a solution.

Here’s some of the ways we are becoming more sustainable:

  • Reduce, reuse, recycle – as much as possible we would like to live by this ethos and where we do use plastic to try to get as many uses out of it as possible. We already recycle all cardboard, paper and glass where possible.

  • We do not use floral foam or partially biodegradable “biofoam” in our arrangements.

  • We have stopped using cellophane and are trying to eliminate and replace other single use plastics where we can.

  • We are switching to biodegradable labeling and paper or card wraps and packaging where possible to allow our customers to recycle more easily.

  • We grow our own flowers and do not use pesticides.

  • When we cannot fulfill an order with our own flowers we try to buy from other local growers, British suppliers from down south, and as a last resort imported goods from Holland. This is in part dictated by the season and the requirements of the customer but we will always try to opt for the option with fewest “miles” involved.

  • We will not use dyed, bleached or painted materials whether dried or fresh.

Areas we’d like to improve

  • Travel - When our trusty van gives up the ghost we’d like to investigate a more environmentally friendly option (it’s a diesel) but due to the long journeys we carry out to supply events across Scotland we cannot currently use an electric van. Hopefully as technology improves this will be a more viable option.

  • Moss – we now use this as one of the materials in many designs that means we don’t have to use floral foam, however we would like to use a more sustainably sourced British grown option if possible.
