Louise and Matthias’S beautiful summer Rowallan Castle WEDDING
Louise and Matthias’s beautiful summer wedding at Rowallan Castle was like something from a fairytale. It was filled with gorgeous seasonal pastel flowers and personal touches with the couple’s family helping to collect vintage bottles and candlesticks and even cut log slices for their wedding décor. Being in July it was perfectly timed to have the best of the summer flower season available.
Soft romantic feel with muted colours of pastel blues, whites and pale pinks in the best seasonal flowers available.
Louise and Mattias were looking for a soft romantic feel to their wedding and we stuck to muted colours of pastel blues, whites and pale pinks in the best seasonal flowers available. This worked really well to create a romantic and elegant feel which worked perfectly in the stunning castle setting. As always we used mainly Scottish grown flowers but added some imported Quicksand roses to perfectly complement the couple’s colour palette. Blue is a difficult colour to find naturally but a great way to incorporate it is through details like candles, blue glass bottles or linens.
Rustic buttonholes of thistle and wax flower alongside rosemary and olive foliage bound in twine.
For the groom Mattias and his groomsmen we created rustic buttonholes of thistle (as a nod to his Scottish wife) and wax flower alongside rosemary and olive foliage bound in twine. These tied into the colours of the rest of the wedding flowers but still looked great against the gents’ tweed jackets.
Bouquets in wild flower style and filled with seasonally grown Scottish flowers
The bridal bouquet was arranged naturally in a wild flower style and filled with seasonally grown Scottish flowers in dusky pinks, whites and with a few pops of darker mauve to give depth to the arrangements. We used seasonal favourites such as campanula, scabious, achillea, hydrangea, snapdragon, Japanese anemone, phlox as well as roses and mallow among many others.
For the bridesmaids we created small relaxed posies inspired by the bridal bouquet which looked great against their blush bridesmaids’ dresses. These bouquets could then be put in vases and dotted around the venue after the ceremony for a bit of extra decoration. For the adorable flower girl we created a matching flower wand out of artificial flowers so that should could play with it again after the wedding.
Mantelpiece display with a gorgeous tumbling arrangement in a Constance Spry style vase
As guests entered the castle we created a flower display for the welcome sign before they headed up to the ceremony room. There we added little circlets of foliage and flowers around the lanterns that lined the aisle and decorated the mantelpiece with a gorgeous tumbling arrangement in a Constance Spry style vase. This show stopping piece created a great backdrop to the ceremony and was then moved through to the ballroom to sit behind the top table for the reception.
Long banquet tables with loose greenery runners of olive foliage
At the reception we lined the long banquet tables with loose greenery runners of olive foliage which we chose because of its muted colour and also because it lasts well out of water. Dotted along this runner we added log slices with vintage bottles filled with seasonal flowers to create a romantic wild flower feel. These worked really well with the coloured candles and brass candlesticks the couple had collected and created a relaxed but elegant effect without taking up too much room on the tables. As we used mainly locally grown seasonal flowers in these bottles there was a beautiful scent in the room to great guests as they entered.
