James and Emma’s colourful wild flower filled summer wedding at Fruin Farm near Helensburgh was such a fun bright celebration. Full of seasonal Scottish grown materials we filled this mini barn with colour and scent fitting for a celebration.
Seasonal bright flowers
Emma and James wanted fun bright colours to fill the barn which worked really well against the muted stone walls and rustic wooden furniture at the venue. Colourful weddings are always right up my street but especially if I can use as many locally grown flowers as possible!
We used lots of Scottish grown flowers the Briar Rose cutting garden and from Keeping the Plot in fife as well as well as one or two imported things like roses. The bright colours really worked well against the deep green of the bridesmaids’ dresses. We used flowers such as sunflowers, dahlias, rudbeckia, hydrangea, scabious, mallope and snapdragon to create a riot of colour throughout the venue.
Setting the scene
For the ceremony we lined the aisle and windowsills in the barn with colourful jars of seasonal flowers and mini wooden meadow style crates that the couple had collected. These touches carried the colour scheme through the space and filled the room with a beautiful scent. These designs were later moved to the reception and really transformed the space to go on tables.
The focal point of the ceremony space was a circular gold arch to which we added spray of colourful flowers to one corner. Either side of this we filled two large milk churns with matching rainbow blooms. These elements were a great way to frame the ceremony space but also very easy to move so the room could be rearranged and the flowers moved to other spots later on for the reception.
Buttonholes and bridesmaid flowers
For the bridesmaids we created sweet posies of brightly coloured flowers similar to the bridal bouquet which could then go into vases after the ceremony. The bride’s bouquet was a larger front facing version of this with a “flat back” which makes it easier for the bride to hold. We then added beautiful peachy orange trailing silk ribbon to the bouquet to contrast against Emma’s dress and which catches the wind really nicely in photos. For the gents we made buttonholes of billy buttons, sweet william and spray roses tied with ribbon, the bright colours looked great against the dark fabric of the jackets.
Relaxed and fun flowers
Bright wild flower style flowers really suited the relaxed and fun feel to Emma and James’ wedding and went well with the rustic look of the barn venue. Using moveable designs like milk churns and mini crates meant the couple could re-purpose designs throughout the day and then give them away to guests afterwards.
