Beth and Dan’s autumn wild flower filled country wedding at Brig O Turk and Venachar Lochside was filled with beautiful autumnal colours and seasonal flowers. We used mainly locally grown Scottish flowers to create gorgeous warm tones complementing the stunning lochside setting.
Seasonal autumnal flowers
Beth and Dan wanted rich autumnal colours to fill their two venues, the church at Brig O Turk and Venachar Lochside, to really complement the season. Autumn is a great time to include some dried elements like grasses, seed heads and berris too to add interest and texture. We used lots of Scottish grown flowers from Keeping the Plot in fife and from the Briar Rose cutting garden as well as well as one or two imported things like roses. The warm colours really popped against the rust orange of the bridesmaid’s dress. We used flowers such as dahlia, sunflower, amaranthus carthamus, cosmos, astrantia, rosehips and rudbeckia. To finish it off we added gorgeous hand dyed trailing silk ribbon to the bridal bouquet in a rich orange rust colour, this contrasted beautifully with the white of Beth’s dress and toned in with her bridesmaid’s outfit.
Flower up that church!
The church at Brig o Turk is a beautiful small building on the edge of the loch with simple interiors. To soften the look of the inside we lined the aisle by tying small bunches of seasonal flowers with colourful ribbon to the pews. This filling the room with a beautiful scent and carried the colour theme through the space.
At the alter we did a “long and low” which is traditionally a long low arrangement of flowers (usually in floral foam but we do ours in moss as it’s much more environmentally friendly). This looked great against the white tablecloth on the alter and was easy to move to the reception to sit in front of the couple later on their top table.
Outside the church we added flowers to signage such as a welcome sign to carry the colour theme through all the elements of the wedding and we created a beautiful seasonal garland which was fixed above the door of the church so that the couple were framed by flowers as the exited the church as man and wife.
After the ceremony the father of the bride and the ushers took the pew ends and gave them out to guests as a keep sake.
Reception flowers
After the ceremony the couple and their guests took some of the church flowers on to their reception venue Venachar Lochside. As well as the “long and low” from the church the tables also had light foliage runners, log slices and lots of gin bottles and jars which the couple had collected and we then filled with seasonal autumn flowers. We refreshed the hanging piece in the upstairs room at Venachar Lochside adding in foliage and seasonal touches like dried bracken and rose hips to carry the colours throughout the space. The warm tones of the autumn colours the couple chose worked really well with the rich tones of the wood in the venue.
