Laura and James’ beautiful September wedding at Killearn Village hall
This wedding was full of magical personal touches and fun jewel tones. The hall is a great blank canvas style venue and the couple made lots of crafty diy elements to really bring the village hall to life, including hundreds of origami birds, beautiful paper star lanterns, lots of crepe streamers and they even built their own arch frame, which we decorated with flowers as a showstopping centrepiece for the ceremony.
RICH JEWEL TONES
Laura and James chose velvety rich jewel tones of purples, blues, burgundies and hot pinks as their colours for the flowers and we used a mixture of dried and fresh Scottish grown seasonal flowers. As their wedding was at the start of September we could still use lots of summer flowers but some more autumnal blooms and dried flowers were also available as this is a sort of crossover time of year giving you the best of both seasons!
SCOTTISH WILD FLOWERS
For the ceremony the aisle was lined with wood slices and gin bottles that the couple had collected and filled with fairy-lights and we then filled with dried Scottish wild flowers. These could then be easily moved to the tables for the reception and fitted in between the sharing platters easily. For these dried flower arrangements we used Scottish grown and dried flowers such as lavender, larkspur, achillea, statice, thistle, salvia and grasses for a rustic, wild flower look. You can see some more examples of dried flowers for weddings here.
FOAMFREE FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS
The arch, constructed by the groom, was an organic, driftwood inspired shape and we added floaty material and a statement #foamfree flower arrangement along the crossbar which framed the couple during the ceremony and provided a good focal point for photos. Alongside seasonal foliage we used lots of focal flowers such as rich dahlias, amaranthus, hydrangea and roses grown in Scotland.
an ethereal bridal bouquet
The bride, Laura, had a relaxed bouquet in a loose hand tied shape inspired by seasonal wild flowers in the jewel tones of their wedding theme. We included lots of different varieties of dahlia, cosmos, hydrangea, honeysuckle, scabious, Japanese anemones, astrantia and roses alongside foliage such as seneccio, eucalyptus and jasmine for a whispy ethereal feel. I really liked the contrast of the muted sage and blush pink colours against the dramatic dark purples and burgundies. The bouquet was finished off with gorgeous hand dyed silk ribbon in a sage green colour.
A FLOWER CROWN OF ROSEBUDS
Laura wore a delicate flower crown of rosebuds, thistle and hydrangea among other materials which contrasted beautifully with her amazing pink hair. Meanwhile the bridesmaids had smaller posies of flowers inspired by the bridal bouquet which looked great against their dark green dresses.
A RUSTIC TOUCH
The groom, James, wore a relaxed bunch style buttonhole of thistle, heather, dried lavender, rosemary and pittosporum bound with twine for a rustic touch, which works really well with a tweed jacket or waistcoat.
