Choosing your wedding colours can be something of a headache, balancing the style and interiors of your venue with your bridesmaid dresses and your own personal tastes as well as the time of year. Beth and Dan wanted a beautiful wild flower look for their city centre wedding at 29 Glasgow in Royal Exchange Square. With the red brick of the room and the high end classy feel of the venue going for a stripped down palette of greens and whites was a perfect way to create a really elegant feel to their designs.
White is traditionally associated with weddings in the West and if it’s good enough for the Royals it’s good enough for us! Beth and Dan’s May wedding was filled with seasonal wild flowers in beautiful whites and greens which also worked well with the white candles and helped pick up the light as the room darkened for the evening part of the reception. The limited colour palette really added to the sophistication and romance of the designs and at that time of year they had a great choice of locally grown flowers from the late spring blooms to the early summer flowers.
Beth’s bouquet was a loose, wild hand tied posy with lush blousey peonies, poppies, early sweet peas, ammi, sweet rocket, philadelphus, ranunculus, fritillaries and roses in fresh whites contrasting with zingy green foliage and my favourite trailing material, Jasmine. We added trailing navy ribbon to tie in with the bridesmaids’ dresses and I created cute floral hoops for the flower girls to carry.
For Dan and his groomsmen we wanted a modern take on buttonholes to go with their sharp blue suits so created bespoke floral pocket squares in greens and whites which looked great against the deep blue materials. This is also a great option for kids if you don’t want them to have buttonholes with pins or magnets.
I used mainly Scottish grown flowers for this fun couple to bring a soft, wild and romantic feel to the wedding flowers. It’s always great to make a feature of the architecture at a venue so for Beth and Dan’s ceremony I created large seasonal installation along the mantelpiece of the fireplace filled with meadow flowers to act as backdrop to their ceremony. The hearth was then filled with candles to give an extra romantic feel.
The mantelpiece arrangement was wild and tumbling with big blousey headed blooms to give it an enchanted fairy tale feel. The whole design was foam free (you can read more about why this is important in our blog on foam free floristry) and after the ceremony would then also be behind the top table for the wedding reception. This large installation was a great focal point in the room and worked really well with the natural stone of the walls.
For the reception we filled minimal elegant glass bottles and vases with spring flowers and scattered foliage around them to create an airy but sophisticated feel. These continued the wild flower look to the wedding but didn’t take up too much room on the tables and weren’t so high that guests couldn’t talk over the top of them.
Not only is Mel one of the loveliest humans she was an absolute pleasure to work with. Mel totally understood our vision and brought it to life in the most incredible fashion. She was happy to help me step outside the box with flower hoops for our flower girls and flower pocket squares for the boys. The bouquets were incredible but the absolute showstopper was her mantelpiece arrangement that was the backdrop for our entire day. Do not hesitate to use Mel for you wedding or any other of your floral needs. I would love to be able to give more than 5* Dan
Although it’s tempting to use colour in wedding (and you know how much I love a colourful wedding) this all white wedding really worked with the space and gave everything a romantic fairy tale feel.
